A Bout

This is my love letter to Provo.

A virtual notebook of delights from the farmers of the west side to the students in the east. These are my restaurant reviews, town hall announcements, gossips and secrets of Happy Valley living.

This is a spot for my words, Chup's photos (and sometimes, mine) to be published for like-minded Provonians, or for those inhabitants who once lived here, or will live here.

Or anyone else.

Because the older I get, the more I fall in love with the purple mountains in the north to the marshlands in the south. And a revitalizing down town. And the thrill of going over the westbound viaduct. And the veggie burrito at El Azteca. And my neighbors who live among me and my clan.

Will you join me?

I love Provo! I'm from Salt Lake, but went to BYU for College, and fell in love with Provo, and now it is my home, and Salt Lake is just where my family lives. (Not that this is a competition....) Now I'm gone to the midwest, but I still have hope that someday I'll make it back to Utah Valley, and if I get my way, the tree streets even. Until then, I love reading about and seeing pictures of Provo. Thanks.

My daughter goes to BYU, 1600 miles away from her parents. I love peeking in on Provo, just makes it seem not so far away. Blog on, cjane!

This comes at a very perfect time! I will be visiting Provo for a week in August and wanted an insiders guide to the city.

Oh C Jane. I love you. I grew up in Provo. My family still lives there, but I've been gone for a while, and right now I'm all the way across the country. I miss my good old Provo.
So I'm really going to enjoy this blog. Thanks :)

I too am a Provo native living across the country in Chicago. I miss P town every day and visit every chance I get. This will be a nice day to get a little taste of home when I am feeling needy for it.

I love this! I've only been to the airport in Salt Lake City but I love reading things about Utah. Thanks for making it more available!

C Jane, I've been a curious reader of your blogs for a little while now. You have great ideas and a great view of the world. I too live in Provo and love to hear little comments about the things I too see or live by or whatever. I've lived here for 9 years now and still feel like I'm getting used to having a mountain in my backyard(coming from Illinois, I was almost claustrophobic when I first got here). I'm excited to see if I can learn anything new about the area from you-maybe you have some insider tips that I can use. :) I'm assuming you enjoy your blogs and I appreciate that I can read them. Thanks!

this blog could not have come at a better time for me!! we moved to mesa several months ago after attending BYU and provo has such a special place in my heart...the more i am away, the more i miss it. my husband and i are evening thinking of moving back there after grad school - even though "utah" was never one of our options! i will relish each post because i simply miss it so much! i am jealous of the beauty you get to see each day ;)

I have to admit, I am an AZ girl and upon moving here I was nervous and not too excited. It seemed a little closed minded.

But, after my near 2 year adventure in Provo, I have fallen in love with the mountains. And the 4 seasons (AZ doesn't exactly offer that feature)! Not to mention you are in the heart of nature in as little as a 15 minute drive. Canyons, rivers, flowers, trees...(sigh).

And now that I have learned to fully appreciate it, I am leaving for AZ in Dec. You see, I am prego with twins...we need grandma's to help us through that first year :)

I love that you love Provo. I am aware of where every picture is taken and you are always walking to places I go frequently. I always hope to see you and the Chief there! If I ever do, I will so say hello.

I prefer the chicken taco at El Azteca. Truly one of the top 5 places to eat Mexican food in all of Utah!

I love this idea! I moved around a lot before attending college in P-town. 5 years in one place makes it the longest I've ever lived anywhere consecutively. Now the husband and I are gone for the summer, and I miss my Provo summer.

Thanks for this blog.

I'm fiercely protective of Provo. But you knew that. Because awesome people live here.

It is so beautiful there. I was born in Provo, but since I only lived there approx. 2 months, I do not think I can call my self a "provinain" I am excited to see what you have to share about my birthplace, though. :)

I grew up in Salt Lake but lived in Provo for 3 years while my husband finished up his degrees. Sadly for me, my youngest just moved there for school ...he's the one wandering aimlessly about campus trying to find his way back to his new apartment! Be sure to take his picture and post it here for me then point him in the right direction!

I swore I would never raise my family in Utah, let alone Provo, but here I am, and yes I do love it here. My husband is a police officer here and loves to show us around the city he knows so well now.

Ooh fun! I live in the "Desolate North" as you called it at your book signing (although Cache Valley and Happy Valley look quite similar judging from your picture) Anywhoo, I'm hoping when my husband graduates from school he'll get a job there! I just love my purple mountain encrusted valleys and your valley actually has MIS jobs!

My husband and I met at BYU like the millions of other mormons. He's from Texas and I'm from Virginia, and Provo was only home to us during our college years. We live in Virginia now, but we reminisce about all of those wonderful unique to Provo places that we miss so much. I honestly think that Provo must have the best selection of places to eat, and not just another chain restaraunt either. You go eat a helping of Magleby's breadsticks and Buttermilk pie for me, ok?

So if you run out of material for Provo and want to expand, do you need a girl Friday in SLC? I did my stint in Provo for the BYU years (and learned to love the Ut Val, I might add), but I was born and raised in SLC and have now moved back after some time out of state. I come from a long line of foodies, and I'm in the know about pretty much every good place to eat in this valley. Let me know if you want some north-of-the-point input!

I will be in Provo next month for some work training. I haven't really been looking forward to it, but will be more open minded now!

Although I am a native 'prune picker' - my "ROOTS" run deep in the tops of the mountains
and
I always feel like..."I'm coming HOME"!!

Thank you for this project!

Fabulous idea. I'm sure I'm not the only north valley reader here so be sure to include anything you come across that may be a little "north" to you.

Can't wait to see the places I will visit...

Until now, I have been a silent reader of your blogs, enchanted and enraptured as I sit at my laptop in Upstate New York. But the wonderful news about this blog is enough to make me break my silence. I'm a Provo girl, born and bred, and miss my mountains, I miss those wonderful Provo people, I miss Days Thriftway and how everyone knows your name there (kinda like Cheers, don't you think?). Thank you for bringing a little of the hometown love to the blogging world!

When I was a resident of Provo, I dated a local boy... I loved him so. I can't help but think of Provo a little nostalgically. I was lucky to see some of the less transient side Provo. PS I didn't end up with my local boy.

Hey Liz in New York! I know you!

And that's why Provo is awesome.
