Utah People's Post: UPP and Away!

Last week my mom and I were notified that my sister Stephanie was listed as one of Utah Valley's most beautiful people in the Utah Valley Magazine's Best of the Valley issue. Hooray!

But then we got to reading some of the other categories/winners and were somewhat disappointed. I mean, Best Cheap Eats went to Wendy's. Wendy's? Wendy's. Best One Stop Shop was Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart? Wal-Mart.

What am I not getting here?

We are better than this Utah Valley.

This shows the critical need we have of more than one source for illumination.

Thanks to a new website
called the Utah People's Post information around our cities, valleys and state will be brought to a exciting new level. Basically the UPP will be using professional journalism, citizen journalism, local organizations to spread quality news throughout our state.

Quality news.

From Reflections Winners at your local elementary school to the Gubernatorial Race 2010. It will all be there, online, accurate and ready for you to read . . . or write yourself.

The UPP officially launches tomorrow (Monday, January 11, 2010). Check it out by clicking on the button below, or read about the ideas behind this new project here.

I am really excited about this, and I hope you will be too.

Pass it on!

Seriously, pass it on!

Your friends and neighbors need to know.

(I am not getting paid to share this information, I am just really excited!)

P.S. Best Cheap Eats in your opinion?
We'd take tacos at Diegos.

Seriously, I laughed at most of the winners (except Stephanie of course). Walmart? I mean seriously? Do people admit they go there? I go there but I don't tell people. And isn't Wendy's a place you go when you're a student at PHS or BYU 'cause you can walk there and you only have 2 dollars?

Megan, what color is our boat? Because it sounds like we are in the same one.

Wendy's? OK their chili is actually good when you add 5 hot sauce packets to it.
Walmart? I used to shop there for pool cleaning supplies when we had an inground pool. I dislike that store more than I can express to you.

Good for you getting the word out.

And I thought Reflections Winners were only announced in the Ward Newsletter!

For cheap eats we always go to El Salvador Restaurant on center street. Their papusas are delicious and they're less than 2 dollars each!

Being from Lehi (I know!) I have to throw in a plug for JCW's in AF and Lehi. All their food is good...but for the cheap part? Order a kid's meal. They are seriously still more than I can eat...and good! I mean, come on, Wendy's?

Also, ugh, I really don't like Walmart. They put the milk at the farthest end of the store from the entrance. This makes it a very inconvenient "one-stop shop". I'll drive farther and even pay more, if I must, to go to Target any day!

I also vote for the papusas at El Salvador Restaurant- they are amazing!

The best cheap eats: Kid's meal at the Creamery. A burger, fries, and drink or ice cream for what? Two fifty? Three tops.

Have you been to Tacos Riendo? Scott and Deon introduced us. Best tacos ever.

Best one stop shop is Target. This website is going to be awesome. I too laughed as I read Utah Valley Magazine's best of, I mean come on who votes for this stuff? I am proud to be from Utah County!

The Utah Valley "Best of" is actually Reader's Choice, so it's not like the editors actually think Wal-Mart and Wendy's are the best. Trust me. They just base the results off of surveys that people send in. So if cooler, hipper people — like cjane readers — contributed they "Best of" would be a lot better.

When compared to the Great Mysteries of the Universe, what's 20 bucks? or 40? With that higher perspective in mind, I say Communal is Utah Valley's Best Cheap Eats.

And honestly, I am the printer who should be doing their letterpressed business cards, so I could eat there for free. Forever.

Good point Natalie. Thanks for bringing that to light, I failed to make that clear.

Geo, amen.

My sister and I call the place Wal-Nast and I used to vow to never go back on a weekly basis... I haven't been in a Wal-nast in over a month! VICTORY!!!

In honor of my daughter's Harry Potter love, we call it Waldemart. But really, what kind of category is One Stop Shop? You know it will have to be a big chain just to qualify.

For cheap eats, I'm a fan of all the taco shops, but I pink puffy heart L-O-V-E the carne asada tacos at El Azteca, and their salsa bar can't be beat.

Best new cheap eats: Sadaf Greek by Movies 8. Delicious gyro sandwich with greek salad, rice and pita less than $6!
