Birthday Week Part Four: Daddy Comes Home, I Am So Glad When

I had a feeling all day yesterday I was going to be surprised sometime this week.

I never feel like I am going to be surprised.

Mostly, because I don't really like being surprised.

But last night I received a call from Chup in Richmond, Virginia. He was scheduled to be gone all week and I was trying to be heroic in not caring about his presence on my birthday. You know, in the grand scheme of things having your husband away for one birthday really doesn't fall under the category "personal tragedy."

"Meeting is canceled. I will be on the first flight home in the morning."

He surprised me.

So I canceled all plans. Chup, The Chief and I spent the day eating Beto's breakfast burritos, Provo Bakery sugar cookies and lounging about as a family. After the best nap I've had in weeks, I awoke to a glittery present on the front room coffee table. It was from my mother.

Two surprises in one day.

I am happy to report, my fear of surprise is dissipating.

One more and I might be totally healed.

I can totally understand the devastation of your husband being gone on your birthday. I have celebrated two birthdays in a row without mine when he was gone on business. I am not a high-maintenance person, but it was tough. I am glad that Chup came home for yours. Happy Birthday and thanks for sharing!

Is the chandelier the gift from your mom? If so it totally rocks. I am glad Chup got home for your birthday!

Happy Birthday!!! (I say in my best Frosty-the-Snowman voice.) As I mentioned on facebook, I celebrate your birthday every year with a sugar cookie from Provo Bakery. I buy it for you. And I eat it for you, too.

Hope you have a WONDERFUL day.

Ohmygoodness, I knew when I started reading your blog that we were going to get along - and now look, I have that same chandelier. Just got in December. It brings me such happiness (can (or should) a chandelier do that?).

Have an absolutely wonderful birthday.

HAPPYHAPPYHAPPY Birthday.

PS - I got my feather ring in the mail this week - thanks for the tip. It is just so sassy. Love it.

Happy Birthday! And there is no better way to spend the day than with Beto's breakfast burritos. I LOVE them. Especially with lots of green sauce. Yum. need to go to beto's now...

Yeah, sure, I grew up in the Greatest City in the World, but everything you write about Provo makes me want to pack up and move there and eat-up for life! I live vicariously through your descriptions of cheese curds, and burritos and baked goodies of all kinds. I have a feeling NYC has NOTHING on Provo! It certainly seems to have nice people, and I am glad to wish its most beloved citizen (yes, I'm biased) a very happy, healthy and most festive birthday! And make sure to describe that birthday cake!

Happy birthday Courtney. We've never met but I found your blog through your sister's blog that I learned about through Katherine Wolf's blog. Long story short, I am so glad to have come across your blog, you write beautifully and are really funny. I hope your day is wonderful and good luck with the delivery of baby #2.
