I was informed by the Mayor's Office that today, April 1st is Provo's birthday.
This is not a joke.
I repeat, this is not a joke.
As the unofficial voice of Provo (I just took that upon me) I declare today HUG A PROVONIAN DAY! And I admonish all people living in the Provo city limits to hug another person living in Provo. Or, if you know a true Provonian living outside of Provo you can hug that person. Or if you are Provonian and there is no other Provonian around to hug you can hug yourself--but just for a short tug because that could get awkward.
Wouldn't it be sweet if we could give the gift of love to our city? A non-refundable gift? Perfect in any size? No exchanges?
Let's do it!
So less jogging and more hugging ok Provo?
And let's log in the hugs in my comments section, who, where, what time, and for what duration. P.S. Long hugs are always awkward.
HAPPY, Happy BIRTHDAY PROVO!
161 years old.
(Thanks Helen.)

Just tightly hugged myself. Sitting at the computer in the downstairs office. 3:32 AM . . .
3:32 AM???
I need to head to bed.
My husband as he walked out the door to go to work, 7:53 AM.
Courtney, aren't we called "Provoans" not "Provonians"?
Great question. We've always said Provonian on our side of things, but I know the Des News uses Provoan.
I shall take it to the mayor's office.
Thanks, c jane. Having lived here for 22 years, which is over half my life, I proudly consider myself a Provonian and look forward to the hugs today.
We're provonians like the Provo high school newspaper (which I wrote for Senior year which was awesome.)
I just hugged myself since my husband is from Woods Cross and my children are all born in Salt Lake and we live in Lehi. Gosh I love Provo.
9:25 am.
Hugged my little boy (the cutest in the world!) 3 times before letting him go inside his first grade classroom.
Squaw Peak suggests Make Out with a Provonian Day. I'd be happy to oblige, if I were single and less middle aged. (28 feels so old)
This discussion makes me wonder what to call residents of Orem, which I am currently. I've been a Seattlite, a Flagstaff Tree-Hugger, and now what? Oremonian? Oreman? Its all pretty bad.
Courtney,
If you want to call us Provonians, that's fine with the Mayor's Office. But why hasn't anyone suggested Provoites?
Dear Mayor Curtis,
I am trying to get Provoite to roll off my tongue the way Provonian does. I just don't know about that . . .
P.s. Thanks for the books!
I hugged Sue Bradford at our down town cultural identity meeting. 12:30ish.
I also tapped Mindy Gledhill's knee at the same meeting. I say it counts.
Squaw Peak Make Out With A Provonian Day. Even Better.
I am going to hug my husband, a born and raised Provo boy. We are now in AZ.
I vote Provonian.
Thank you for the hug today. Between you, 007 and the Princess, my arms are filled.
A proud resident of Provo for (almost) my entire life.. I vote for Provoite! Sounds like it's straight out of the bom. lol :)
I know the Des News uses Provoan.
