Who Are You Calling Boring?

Last week Chup and I were talking to someone about this Guide to Provo blog. In explaining the point of these postings Chup said, "This is really Courtney's labor of love." And when I heard that I was reminded why I started this whole project in the first place.

Because I love it here.

Though, I understand why Provo isn't ranked high on the Top 100 Fun Cities of America. I can even see why we are ranked DEAD LAST. The enjoyment of this city is not in the overly-manicured golf courses, the megaplexes of amusement or the vast opportunity to imbibe or gamble. The excitement of our town isn't found in being entertained, it is in the relationships that are formed, the families that are raised the traditions that are kept.

Provo is fun because of the little things that add up to an experience. We have our own culture--distinct and rare in this world. You won't find what we have anywhere else. It is a busy town, a safe town, a loud town with quiet neighborhoods.

Plus, it is beautiful.

So maybe we are last on the Most Fun list, at least we are ranked high on the Most Livable. And while I like to visit fun cities, I'd rather live in the livable ones.

Just me?

Look for a renewed effort this week (and the weeks, months to follow) on this blog. Labor of love indeed.

Guy riding on a scooter with no helmet and talking on a cell phone. Let's hope he 'lives' in his livable town long enough to gain some safety sense!

I live in a city that consistently ranks on the "poorest" and "murder capital" lists for small cities. I'd take boring any day!

i took serious issue w/ provo's placing and the digs about our little p-town. and the truth is, fun is relative.

true, if you like to party so hard you don't remember the "fun" you had then provo may be found wanting.

but if you like to live fun, what's not to love about some of the local--not chain--restaurants (oh and the knocking we took about our community theater was completely undeserved--provo/orem has good theater for our size). and do not get me started about rock canyon, provo river trail, byu football.

oh there is fun to be had in provo. and like i always say:

only boring people are bored.

dear mister helmet-less moped man: thank you for proving chivalry still exists, placing the helmet on your date's head. kudos to you, for also trusting your safety to the speed limit of that street - 15 mph. what are you doing this friday?

i nearly shed a tear over this post. must be the hormones. this blog helps fill the gaping hole in my heart that was made when i left provo to move back home to australia! where do you find a place with enough character to replace a town like provo??

Also, tell me my parties aren't fun--TELL ME TO MY FACE.

As someone who will be moving from Provo soon, I have to say that I might end up living in lots of bigger/more exciting/crazier places, but my heart will always be in Provo.

Also, if Utah County is such a bad place for theater, then why is Audra Mcdonald coming here to do a show? Don't knock our theater until you try it.

I love Provo. I lived there just during college but have missed it ever since. I was never bored! My personal favorite: Provo Canyon in fall.

They guy on the motorcycle.. I think his foot is on the ground. Not driving right then anyway. Sweet pic.

Today was my presentation to the Gallop Group on our high "Well Being" ranking. I read your earlier blog entry to them and talked about families, service and things that matter most. I also shared our low fun ranking and the group had a good laugh.

I thought the same exact thing when I saw that headline! Apparently I don't need much fun to be really happy.

hi, i've been reading you for quite sometime now, not religiously though, as real life gets in the way a lot of times, and let me say that of all the places in the u.s. of a., it's Provo i want to see someday. and it was because of your Provo blog that i started my own Davao blog.

i've never dreamt of visiting north america, europe was my thing. but reading about your life in Provo made me change the way i see your country. it is an interesting place to someday visit and make memories in. =D
